I grew up on a plantation on the isolated north west coast of Australia and developed a love of books and writing at an early age. The act of turning the page and immersing myself into a good story has been a way for me to explore, escape and excite my imagination. I was fortunate to have some great teachers throughout my school years and had my first story published while in primary school. Later, a high school publication included a poem written while attending a literary camp.
My passion led me to studying freelance journalism and subsequently I worked for regional newspapers. While my working career enabled me to write fact, I continued to dabble in fiction and poetry with the occasional piece published in magazines and newspapers.
For me, writing is a creative process with the act of writing, editing and crafting a story or poem fills a space that would not have otherwise been filled. It is a way to connect, share experiences, thoughts and ideas.
This blog has been created to share the story of the plantation, where I grew up, the history of my family, the original owner and a surprising link that exists to another piece of history of the small outback town of Carnarvon. This little piece of history has not previously been told and so I will fill that space and share the story with you.
